Cult Classics, The Big Lebowski and Gator Coming to The Lyric Becomes Martin County Holiday Tradition

The Dude Abides!

The Dude abides...AGAIN! Everyone’s favorite Dude is back in one of the greatest cult classics The Big Lebowski. Directed by the Coen Brothers, the comedy adventure The Big Lebowski follows the story of an unemployed Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler, Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, as he is thrust into an absurd adventure filled with mistaken identities, a missing toe, and German nihilists. The film is loosely inspired by the work of Raymond Chandler. Joel Coen stated, “We wanted to do a Chandler kind of story – how it moves episodically, and deals with the characters trying to unravel a mystery, as well as having a hopelessly complex plot that’s ultimately unimportant.” Starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, and Julianne Moore, The Big Lebowski has become so popular since its release that it inspired an annual Lebowski Fest celebration honoring all things “Dude.” If you’re a diehard fan or you’re just out there “takin’ ‘er easy for all us sinners,” you won’t want to miss The Lyric’s screening of The Big Lebowski on February 7th at 4pm and 7pm. Come dressed in your finest bathrobe or as your favorite character and get $5 off your ticket at the door. For more information, call The Lyric Box Office at 772-286-7827.

Legendary director and film star, Burt Reynolds returns for a special Talk-Back

Legendary director and film star, Burt Reynolds returns to The Lyric, for a special screening of Gator followed by a talkback to share memories and anecdotes from his action-adventure hit. The sequel to the 1973 film White Lightning, Gator is a wild action film following the scrappy Bobby “Gator” McKlusky as he takes on local crooked cops and corrupt politicians. Director and star Burt Reynolds plays Gator McKlusky, the Georgia moonshiner and ex-convict who punches, smashes, and crashes his way to justice. When the county of Dunston falls under the thumb of the ruthless Bama McCall (Jerry Reed), it’s up to Gator and his stunning partner-in-crime Aggie Maybank (Lauren Hutton) to save the day. Since its release in 1976, Gator has become a cult classic among Burt Reynolds fans and action movie aficionados alike. Filled with heart-pounding car chases and a steamy 70s romance, Gator is an unforgettable film. Partial proceeds will benefit The Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre. The screening of Gator with a special appearance and talkback with Burt Reynolds will be held at The Lyric Theatre on January 25th at 7pm. Tickets are available online at www.lyrictheatre.com or through The Lyric Box Office at 772-286-7827.
