One of the most recognized political comedy shows in the country, Capitol Steps brings some much needed humor into the field of American politics. Always a sold out show here at The Lyric, Capitol Steps has a punchline for all the latest headlines, and there is plenty of material this election cycle. A regular on national television and public radio, Capitol Steps has become a national sensation. This season Capitol Steps presents What to Expect When You’re Electing, featuring all the greatest jokes about Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, and more.

Over three decades ago, a bunch of Senate staff members were tasked with making a collection of song parodies for an upcoming Christmas party. Met with wild applause from their fellow staff and audience members, the staffers took their show on the road. Now, Capitol Steps has become a household name. Although the Capitol Steps performers are no longer staffers in the Senate, the current troupe of acclaimed comedians, singers, and performers has kept the legacy alive. In addition to their touring theatrical performances, Capitol Steps has a beloved radio show, Politics Takes a Holiday, which is performed on NPR four times a year.

With over 62 years of House and Senate experience and 18 Congressional offices between them, the Capitol Steps troupe have an unrivaled knowledge of Washington politics. The group has released 30 albums featuring song parodies, including the timely Take the Money and Run- For President. Their latest album What to Expect When You’re Electing forms the basis for their performance this season, with songs including “Hello, Is It Mitt You're Looking For?” and “Kasich is the Hardest Rhyme.”
