Always a holiday favorite in downtown Stuart, Peter White, Rick Braun, and Mindi Abair are back for A Peter White Christmas. Fusing pop, jazz, and classical genres, A Peter White Christmas offers a new take on Christmas classics from “Greensleeves” to “The Little Drummer Boy.” Led by veteran session musician Peter White, this beloved holiday special featuring trumpet player Rick Braun and saxophonist Mindi Abair gets better every year.
Inspired by the success of 1960s rock groups like The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, Peter White picked up the electric guitar at an early age. Thankfully for jazz lovers everywhere, an accidental fire destroyed his electric, bringing the musician to transition to the acoustic. Earning his first professional booking at the age of 19, Peter White was eventually invited to join the famous singer-songwriter Al Stewart’s band as a keyboardist while they toured through England, Scotland, and the United States. White and Stewart continued to develop their relationship, collaborating to release the major 1976 hit, “Year of the Cat.”
Also performing with Peter White in A Peter White Christmas are Rick Braun and Mindi Abair. At ease with a number of instruments, Rick Braun is a master of the trumpet, beginning his career as a session musician for several bands. Over the course of his career, Braun has released over 15 albums, including a Christmas album titled Swingin’ in the Snow. The incredibly talented saxophonist and vocalist Mindi Abair has been a longtime collaborator with Peter White. She has toured with many of the most popular recording artists of all time, from The Backstreet Boys to Aerosmith. Her latest album, Wild Heart, featured guest recordings by Gregg Allman, Joe Perry, and Booker T. Jones. For the performance at The Lyric this holiday season, Abair will perform some songs from Wild Heart and, of course, all your favorite Christmas tunes.
A Peter White Christmas has become a holiday tradition for Martin County, attracting audiences young and old. The Christmas special was inspired by the success of Peter White’s holiday albums, such as Songs of the Season and the eponymous A Peter White Christmas. White has designed the “Peter White Christmas Tour,” which features new and original interpretations of seasonal classics. Stay warm this Christmas with Peter White, Rick Braun, and Mindi Abair.
