Lyric Theatre in Stuart bringing back old favorites, new acts

By Alisha McDarris

The Lyric Theatre’s 2013-2014 season is jam packed full of musicians, comedians, tribute bands and musicals that Executive Director John Loesser is sure will please audiences.

As always, Loesser aimed to fill the calendar with shows that appeal to a wide array of discerning theatergoers to provide everyone with a little something they can enjoy.

Among the list of returning talent is Kris Kristofferson, a musician Loesser says the Lyric is very lucky to have on tap again this year, and the Cab Calloway Orchestra, which will be performing during the Lyric’s birthday bash in November.

Pilolobus, one of the best modern dance companies in the world, also will be returning to the Lyric for the third time in 15 years and is one show Loesser doesn’t plan on missing.

“It will one of the highlights of our season,” Loesser said.

He is certain audiences will be thrilled with new acts, such as the Siscilian Tenors and the Dragonfly Orchestra with its soaring musical energy.

The Theatre has added a Broadway series, to its lineup with such productions as Hair, Sweet Charity and The Best of Broadway featuring the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

With such a lineup of entertainment, an overhaul to the box office ordering system that will allow guests to purchase and print their tickets online, and more hit shows being added throughout the year, Loesser hopes to beat last year’s record ticket sales.

“I’m looking forward to another successful year at the Lyric,” Loesser said.

Tickets go on sale the Tuesday after Memorial Day for members and after Labor Day for nonmembers. Call the box office at 772-286-7827 or visit www.lyrictheatre.com.
