The Lyric’s favorite Serbian blues guitarist, Ana Popovic, is back with a bang. Recently nominated for her 5^th Blues Music Award, Popovic has dominated the American Blues scene since she arrived with her innate musical talent and passionate vocals. With the release of her latest album Blues Room, the Memphis-based musician’s rise to fame shows no sign of slowing. A world-class performer, Popovic has performed hundreds of sold-out shows across the world from Canada to Japan, captivating audiences with her combination of technical skill and fiery passion.

Raised in Belgrade, Ana Popovic was born into a musical family. Popovic started playing the guitar at the age of 15, encouraged by her father to embrace the blues genre. The young prodigy immediately made an impression on local music teachers and artists and, in 1995, Ana formed the group Hush, which enjoyed success across Yugoslavia, making regular appearances on state television shows. The group broke up in 1998 when Ana entered the conservatory in Utrecht to study jazz guitar. Shortly after, in 1999, Ana formed the self-titled Ana Popovic Band and began making a name for herself on the international music scene. Nearly seventeen years later, Ana Popovic has released five best-selling blues albums in the United States and has been featured on the cover of a number of notable magazines, including Vintage Guitar, American Blues Scene, and Blues Matters.

Ana Popovic’s latest album, Blues Room, is an especially personal release for the guitarist. Recorded with her father Milton Popovic, the album is named after the room in which Ana’s father first inspired her to pick up the guitar. After 10 years of attempting to convince her father to record an album with her, Popovic finally succeeded, creating a work that is both technically impressive and highly emotional. The prolific Ana Popovic is already recording a new full-length studio album with the Grammy-winning producer Warren Riker at the legendary Esplanade Studios in New Orleans. Don’t miss the incredible Ana Popovic this year at The Lyric Theatre this January.

Blending traditional Celtic sounds with unmatchable innovation, Gaelic Storm returns to The Lyric Theatre for another memorable night of rock, country, and folk. Founding members Steve Twigger and Patrick Murphy combine lyrical ingenuity, energetic instrumentals, and a traditional Gaelic spirit, earning the group a reputation as one of the foremost bands of their kind. Well known for their appearance in the 1997 film Titanic, Gaelic Storm is a live musical experience like no other.

Gaelic Storm first started in 1996 when Patrick Murphy, Steve Wehmeyer, Steve Twigger, and Brian Walsh met at O’Brien’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in Santa Monica, California. The four musicians began a musical experiment, blending Scottish, Irish, and pop music together to form a unique sound. An instant hit with the audience in Santa Monica, the quartet decided to form Gaelic Storm. It wasn’t long until the group attracted the attention of filmmaker James Cameron, who invited them to play a role in his upcoming film. The rest was history. Gaelic Storm performed as the band in the ship steerage party scene in the hit film Titanic and the opportunity catapulted Gaelic Storm into international fame, earning them a sizable fan base in the process. Since their memorable performance, the Irish-bred band has recorded 10 albums and performed nearly 3,000 shows around the world.

In addition to Gaelic Storm’s original members Patrick Murphy and Steve Twigger, the group has welcomed Ryan Lacey, Kiana Weber, and the multi-talented Pete Purvis, whose musical skills range from the uilleann pipes to the tin whistle, deger pipes, and highland pipes. While always staying true to their Celtic roots, Gaelic Storm continues to push their own musical boundaries. Born in Antrim, Northern Ireland, Gary Arbuthnot studied among the best, first at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was awarded the Meaker Fellowship, and later at the prestigious McGill University in Montreal. By 1998, Arbuthnot had broken out on the classical music scene, earning prizes at the Markneukirchen and Carl Nielsen International Flute competitions. The talented young musician continued drawing attention, earning awards from the Hattori Foundation, the Claudio Abbado European Young Musicians Trust, and the BBC Radio Three Young Artists Forum. Arbuthnot has worked with numerous international symphonies, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Opera de Lyon.

Most recently, Gary Arbuthnot has brought his talents to the high seas, performing on some of the top cruise lines in the world. His performance Stage and Screen features works from some of the most recognizable pop and classical composers, as well other surprising compositions.
